Junior Sports
The main aim of the Junior School P.E. Curriculum is to improve & refine our students’ motor skills & to instil a positive attitude to P.E. We work on improving their hand/eye co-ordination & foot /eye through participation in various running activities & ball games. Balance & overall body awareness is improved through dance & gymnastic activities. Co-operative play is encouraged through participation in non-competitive team-building activities. Our swimming programme helps improve water confidence & Stroke production.. At Grade 2 & Grade 3 level the students will begin to participate in more game specific activities such as mini games of basketball & soccer. Sports Day & Gala Day are the highlights of the Sporting year.
Intermediate Sports
Skills techniques & theories will be further developed in the Intermediate School. Students will be introduced to new games involving implements eg Hockey & badminton.In addition to the two classes of Phys Ed. each child in Grade 4,5, & 6 receive they also participate in after school sports three days a week. Clubs are on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays. The clubs offered in the Autumn term are Hockey, Badminton & basketball. In the Summer term the Sports change to Swimming, athletics & rounders. As part of the Intermediate School Sports Programme our students will be given their first taste of inter-class & inter-school competition. We compete against St Fintan's and The Burrow in an annual athletic event. We compete against local schools in Hockey & Badminton.
