SENIOR CYCLE CURRICULUM

Vision/Aims
Italian teaching is adapted to each individual student and his/her requirements.

Approaches and Methodologies
In most cases, Italian is taught "ab initio" in Sutton Park, i.e. starting in 4th and/or 5th Year and preparing for the Leaving Certificate Examination. However, in the last couple of years, we have had some students coming from other schools who had learnt Italian for the Junior Certificate Examination, they were able to do the Higher Level Examination and achieved grades A, B or C.
Anna Flood
Native Italian Teacher
Students starting "ab initio" Italian may not be able to sit the Higher Level Examination, but usually they do very well in the Ordinary Level. Although the Syllabus is strictly adhered to, students' special requirements are particularly taken into account, especially for foreign students or Irish students who have studied the subject before. For example, particular emphasis will be given to the spoken language when students are weak in this skill. Students who are not suitable to sit the Higher-level Examination are catered for and given some classes separately, as the examination is quite different. In this case the text "Sempre Avanti" has been used over a two-year period, but it will be replaced in the future.

Curriculum Content
The following programme applies to students aiming for the Higher Level:
In 4th year Giro D’Italia is used.
In 5th Year the text and Guerra Edizioni was used.
In 6th Year, in addition to Rete 2 material taken from a variety of books, magazines, cassettes etc is used.

The programme follows the requirements of the Syllabus.
