Music Department
The Music Department has two specialist classroom teachers plus five visiting instrumental teachers. Music is taught as a subject in the Junior, Intermediate and senior school.

Instrumental Tuition
Over 150 students in the school take private instrumental tuition in addition to normal classroom activities. The Department at present can offer private tuition in Piano, Violin, Cello, Guitar, Saxophone and Clarinet, Flute Recorder and Voice.

Opportunities for student performance
There is enormous scope within the school for students to engage in public performance. The following events are fixed every year in the calendar:

Opportunities for Composing
We offer ‘Song School’ - an option that uses modern recording studio equipment to facilitate the composition and recording of student’s work. Senior music students have participated in The National Composition Workshops with the National Chamber Choir.
As part of Sutton Park Schools Young Musician Competion we proudly presented a recital by the exciting young pianist Mr Lance Coburn, winner of Cologne International Piano Competition.

Opportunities for Student Competition
The Young Musician Competition - The Patrick J Hillery Trophy
The Music Department organises a competition for the local area with competitions for piano, voice, strings and wind. Entries come in from all over North Dublin. Former president of Ireland, Dr Patrick Hillery donated the principal Prize for this competition. Esteemed adjudicators over the years have included the late Dr Brian Boydell and Dr Gerard Victory. Well over a thousand young musicians have performed and have received constructive advice at this event over the past 15 years.
